I know the original post regards running an OS X virtual machine in Parallels, but just to clarify:

PARALLELS DESKTOP 10 FOR MAC NAVE NA. Parallels Desktop 10 for Mac. USB 1.1/2.0/3.0,Windows 10/8.1/8/7, Mac OS X 10.6-10.9, 6.6 Ft. Length, TU-P1284.

  1. According to the developer, Parallels Desktop build 6.0.12092 improves compatibility with Mac OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) and includes fixes and improvements that resolve some issues.
  2. I looked at Parallels 10 - seems OS X 10.6 is not supported? Need version 9? Have 2013 27' imac - need to run 10.6 as secondary system with rosetta.

Windows installed under Parallels (up through version 6, at least) does NOT require a full retail disk.

I've used Parallels under OS X 10.5.x and 10.6.x, beginning with Parallels Version 3 through 6 (though not Version 7, the latest release), and successfully created Windows virtual machines from OEM Windows XP, Vista, and Windows 7 versions. That does not mean you can use the OEM disks that came with another (HP for example) Windows computer. I purchased the 'vanilla' OEM system disks from a reliable source of computer system components and software, TigerDirect.com

Hello!
The first thing I would do is the Snow leopard Upgrade. You can purchase the 10.6 disk from the apple store. Make sure you backup your computer before doing this. You never know what surprises can come about.
Dowload the combo back update to 10.6.3 instead of using the update tool. That seemed to work much better for me. The combo updater can be found here:

Make sure you are running the latest version of bootcamp. I loaded Windows 7 Pro 64 bit with no problems. It was a smooth installation.
Parallels is great for running the machine within mac. The latest version supports 7 and it works great. You may consider bootcamp if you want 100 % power to windows applications.
