Parallels has quickly updated its popular Desktop virtualization utility for Mac, bringing support for the latest software and hardware: OS X Mountain Lion, Windows 8 and Retina display-equipped MacBook Pros. Represented by their respective products, VMware and Parallels, Inc. Are the two commercial competitors in the Mac consumer platform virtualization market. Both products are based on hypervisor technology and allow users to run an additional 32- or 64-bit x86 operating system in a virtual machine alongside Mac OS X on an Intel -powered Mac. We do work on Mac Pro support by PD. However, it will take us a short while to prepare and test the update. For those who badly need to run PD on MP right now or want to experiment a bit, there is a workaround. For instance, while Boot Camp 6.1, which installs Windows 10, is not supported for my Mac Pro 5,1 (2012) test platform, Windows 10 can still be installed and works without a hitch — just without. On a machine which does not have a TPM chip, we can still enable BitLocker but we use a USB device as a startup key.
Generally USB devices are formatted with FAT/FAT32 file system.
Some Mac Books cannot read from USB devices formatted with MBR and FAT/FAT32 file system.
Now if you have Windows 7 installed on a Mac Book and you want to use a USB key as startup key, then USB device has to be formatted with GPT.

Intel-based Macs support starting from an external USB storage device’s volume that has been formatted with GPT.

In some Mac Books if we format the USB device with MBR and NTFS file system we can use it as a startup key for BitLocker.
Note: From Disk Management we cannot format a USB device as GPT, but we can use disk part to do this easily.
Steps to format the disk as a GPT disk
Once you have the USB drive ready to be used as a startup key, then you can enable BitLocker from Control Panel –> BitLocker Drive Encryption.
Make sure you have the below policy enabled.
To enable BitLocker on a computer without a TPM, you must enable the Require additional authentication at setup Group Policy setting, which is located in Computer ConfigurationAdministrative TemplatesWindows ComponentsBitLocker Drive EncryptionOperating System Drives. You must select the Allow BitLocker without a compatible TPM check box. After this setting is applied to the local computer, the non-TPM settings appear in the BitLocker setup wizard.
Once you go through the BitLocker Encryption Wizard, please do not skip the below step.

Once the machine is rebooted, we will read the USB Key and then BitLocker Encryption will start.
Once encryption is completed, we can reboot the machine and then we will be asked to insert the USB key in every time we reboot the Mac Book case we forget it.

I received an e-mail this morning form Parallels announcing Desktop for Mac 10. I went and checked and it looks like they release a new version just about once a year. I've been using it since v. 6, and as a poor grad student, I'm starting to wonder if it's worth paying $50/year for it. Add to that, I use it to run Windows so that I can use one application, OriginLab. They charge me $69/year just to use it.

So, I'm paying $120/year to use one piece of Windows software because there is no good scientific graphing and data analysis software for the Mac.
So, it is worth it? Are there any better alternatives? Thanks for any help/advice.
