Installation Instructions
- Before installing a virtual machine you need to sign up for Windows Insider Program and download Windows 10 Technical Preview, an early look at the future of Windows.
- Download Windows 10 Technical Preview VM shell on your Mac with Parallels Desktop 10 installed -> double-click on the archive to unzip the virtual machine shell -> move the virtual machine shell to ~/Documents/Parallels/
- Double-click on the Windows 10 Technical Preview VM shell.pvm file -> Parallels Desktop will ask whether you have copied or moved the virtual machine -> click Copied
NOTE: If your Mac has 4GB of RAM, Parallels Desktop prompts to decrease an amount of RAM assigned to the virtual machine:

- Then the virtual machine will show you a blank Preboot eXecution Environment (PXE) screen -> Go to Actions menu and Stopthe virtual machine:
- Go back to Actions menu -> Configure… -> Hardware tab -> CD/DVD 1 page -> Connect to: -> Choose an image file… ->locate WindowsTechnicalPreview.iso file and choose it.
- Launch Windows 10 Technical Preview VM shell virtual machine -> Proceed with Windows installation.
- When the install is finished, create a user account and access Windows 10 Technical Preview Desktop.
- Now, to install Parallels Tools please click on Devices tab -> CD/DVD 1 -> Connect Image… -> locate prl-tools-win.iso at:
and connect this image to Windows 10 Technical Preview VM shell virtual machine.
- In the virtual machine go to This PC and double-click on DVD Drive (D:) Parallels Tools -> proceed with Parallels Tools installation.
- When all setups are finished, you may shutdown the virtual machine and rename it in the configuration window.

In January 2020 Windows 7 will reach the end of extended support (no more security patches).

Parallels is a more expensive option than Boot Camp since you have to buy the Parallels software. Updates are not as easy and affordable as Boot Camp. There is a new version of Parallels released in tandem with OS X updates every year and it usually costs $49.99 to upgrade. Boot Camp is free and pre-installed on every Mac (post 2006). Instructions
To upgrade your Windows virtual machine to Windows 10 please follow the upgrade path given below.
Step 1
Ctfmon Remover Windows 10
- Even though Parallels Desktop automatically detects whether 32-bit or 64-bit Windows version is installed in the virtual machine, you can check which one you've got by clicking on Start menu > right clicking on Computer > Properties.
- Choose one of the links below depending on Windows version shown in computer's properties.

NOTE: for installing 64-bit version of Windows 10 please make sure your virtual machine has at least 2GB of RAM assigned. To check virtual machine's RAM please open configuration menu > Hardware > CPU & Memory.
To increase the memory you would need to shut down your virtual machine.
Also make sure that you have at least 10GB of free space available on the virtual hard disk for the upgrade. You can check the amount of a free space in File Explorer of your Windows VM (C: partition). To add more free space please visit KB 113972.

Step 2
- If you have Parallels Desktop Sharing Tools enabled, you can run the downloaded file from the Mac's Downloads folder.
- Run MediaCreationTool.exe and follow the on-screen instructions to upgrade Windows.
- Once the upgrade has finished you can shut Windows down and rename it.
